Book Larnin'

Yesterday was the kids' first day of school. We requested a transfer from their poorly-achieving, overcrowded school near home to a much smaller, high-performing school in the near North Valley. The school is beautiful, with a real gym and a grassy field, as well as a playground across the street. The principal knows the students by name, and there is a real sense of community among the staff, parents, and children. We are very happy with the school.

To make matters better, the kids both have great teachers, and the gifted teacher seems like the kind of person who can both nurture and challenge both of them.

On to the good stuff. Here are the young scholars right before we left.
Note too that the new school does not require the faux uniform nonsense, meaning a)we didn't need to buy two entire wardrobes for each child and b)we will need to wash about 25% less laundry each week.

is this an APS school or charter school. if it either one, you can get refund from APS for miles. let me know if you want the paper work. APS send me 3 sets of paper work one for each of the boys. I still have an extra, if you want it. The amount is 35cent a mile/max $10 a day. It adds up. We did it last year, too.

Thanks Chris. They sent us the paperwork as well. I just need to get my butt in gear and take it to the offices.

Love the picture. There is always a certain look of eagerness in elementary school pictures, don't you think? Kindergarten always has the shy look...the ensuing years after that they seem eager and bright. One other comment ~ I had never thought of this aspect before, but the idea of a school uniform could (symbolically at least) indicate they will all be treated the same...they aren't the same at all. Each one is unique.
